1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a nationally recognized non-profit organization that promotes early literacy skill development and parent-child bonding through reading in children ages birth to five. The program is simple:  read 1,000 books with your child before they reach kindergarten and keep track of their progress. Research on reading with young children indicates that reading to children helps build language skills, improves social emotional learning, encourages brain development, and increases their chances for academic success upon entering kindergarten.

The Art Cart has coloring pictures, crayons, markers, construction paper, craft kits, glue, tape, and more all ready to be used for you and your child's creative needs.

Art is an excellent method for young children to hone their fine motor skills and expand their imaginations through the creative process.

Books and Babies is a year round toddler storytime program that focuses on instilling a life-long love of reading through positive learning experiences and early literacy.

Children up to 3 years old are welcome to join us for this half hour program of stories, songs, activities, and crafts. 

Family Place builds on the knowledge that good health, early learning, parental involvement and supportive communities play a critical role in a young child’s growth and development.

The overall goal of Family Place Libraries is to develop and institutionalize a family friendly environment by transforming libraries into community centers for literacy, early childhood development, parent education and engagement, family support and community information.

Family Place is a nationwide network of  more than 450 sites in 29 states and continues to grow.

Each pass permits FREE entry to nearby attractions. Passes are only available for checkout in-person at the library, and they are strictly first come, first served. Limit 1 pass per family. Passes are checked out for one week, and are automatically returned to the library after 7 days. Call ahead to check availability.

The Philotechno's Children's Library, located on the lower level of the Hillsboro City Library, is a fun and welcoming environment.

Children, along with their parents or caregivers, can play together in our Toddler Play Area. The play area features interactive materials for young children. Toddlers will find board and picture books, age appropriate toys, puzzles, dramatic play items, blocks and art supplies.

Play in the Library is allowed during regular business hours.

Choose from 12 types of activity backpacks that contain all you need for an adventure! Use the supplies inside to explore different activities, both indoors and outdoors.

Beanstack is a web based application that enables patrons to log their books and minutes read during the Summer Reading Program or in one of our other reading events.

Use cloudLibrary to browse digital shelves created by the Hillsboro Library or by filtering by genres that interest you. Register your child for Imagination Library at lddif.org or fill out a paper form in person at the library. Eight to ten weeks after your registration has been recieved, books will begin arriving at your home and will continue until your child turns 5 or you move out of the service area. 

Leah Demaree Douglas Imagination Foundation has partnered with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to help your child love to read by providing print books at home and encouraging you to set aside daily time for your child to read. Every child will have books of their own, at no cost to you, thanks to LDDIF and Dolly Parton. Each month, a new, carefully selected book will be mailed directly to your home in your child's name. Each child can look forward to new and exciting reading adventures from the Imagination Library!

ParentTV offers thousands of on-demand parenting videos and courses with content designed to support those who care for children, from pregnancy through to teenage years.

ParentTV works with leading psychologists, pediatricians, mental health specialists, nutritionists, occupational therapists and parenting educators across the globe.

Search and find videos on general parenting, play, behavior, child development, mental health, sleep, nutrition, technology and more. Most videos are under 10 minutes in length and can be accessed on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Our Preschool Storytime is a year round program that focuses on instilling a life long love of reading through positive learning experiences.

Children of all ages are welcome to join us for this half hour program of songs, movement, stories, and crafts.

During a preschool storytime, the librarian interacts with the children through reading stories, asking questions, singing songs, playing games, and encouraging movement.

Families are welcome to stick around afterwards and play in the toddler area.
