The Youth Services Department at the Hillsboro City Library is now under the leadership of Michelle Goldman. Goldman has a Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science from Colorado State University Global. She has a strong background in youth education, most recently having taught reading, science and social studies at Whitney ISD. Prior to her work at the school district, Goldman worked abroad teaching English as a Second Language in the Czech Republic and Costa Rica. She got her start in education through homeschooling her own children. After travelling the world, Goldman moved to Texas in 2020 with her husband and started a farm where they raise quarter horses together.
Library Director Justin Dyer said, “The diversity of Michelle’s experience, both domestically and abroad, coupled with her passion for education make her a valuable addition to the Hillsboro Library family. I look forward to seeing how she develops and grows the library’s youth programming.”
Goldman has hit the ground running, coming on at the library during its busiest time of year, summer reading. Goldman and Interim Youth Services Librarian Callie Pittman have been working closely together this summer to ensure the library has quality programming for area youth. Throughout the month of June, the library has hosted twice weekly performances at Historic City Hall that kicked off with a carnival. In July, programming has taken a hands-on approach at the library with crafts, games, science activities, and kindness projects.
Michelle Goldman had this to say about her recent appointment to the library’s Youth Services position: “I am thrilled to be selected to fill this role for the City of Hillsboro. Libraries provide a place of respite for all ages, offer a chance at adventure, and connect our community to its history, all through the joy of reading. I look forward to meeting our library families, connecting with the community, and growing the library’s youth programming.”
The public is encouraged to come meet the new Youth Services Librarian, Michelle Goldman, at one of the library’s summer programs or in the library’s Youth Services Department, which is located on the lower level of the building.
The library is located at 118 South Waco Street. More information about the library, and its programs for children, can be found online at hillsborotxlibrary.org. Questions about the library’s youth programming can be answered by calling the library at (254) 582-7385.
