Last year, the Texas Library Association (TLA) was the beneficiary of H-E-B’s Summer at the Library check-stand campaign. Thanks to the generous donations of customers from across the state, a total of $293,945 was awarded to 73 libraries to support summer programming this year.
The Hillsboro City Library was one of the 73 libraries to benefit from H-E-B customer generosity.
H-E-B and TLA awarded the Friends of the Hillsboro City Library a $7,500 grant to put towards the library’s annual Summer Reading Program. This year’s program started with a Kickoff Carnival, featuring free food, games, and activities from other community organizations. Each of the more than four hundred children in attendance were able to take home a free book.
Weekly events and programs continue throughout the months of June and July with the theme of Color Our World. This year’s reading events culminate with a pizza party on Friday, August 1 with Congressman Jake Ellzey’s office providing Certificates of Congressional Recognition to this year’s top readers. A full calendar of the library’s events maybe found online at hillsborotxlibrary.org.
In support of Texas Libraries, H-E-B has once again selected the Texas Library Association as the beneficiary of its June check-stand donation campaign.
From June 4 to July 1, customers at any H-E-B store will be able to donate to TLA when they check out. Proceeds from the campaign will support summer reading programs and initiatives at libraries across Texas. The impact of this partnership will make a tremendous difference in the services libraries can provide to their communities during the summer months.
If you are interested in offering direct support to the Hillsboro City Library’s summer reading program, or its other literacy efforts, consider joining the Friends of the Hillsboro City Library group, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to enhance the programs and preservation of the library.
